The Devil, in his dark arts, concocted a poison most deadly
And he offered it up to the children of light
That they might become his slaves in the night
But the children passed it by-

So Satan, that serpent, the father of lies
He concealed it in a package
That was pleasing to the senses
And good in men's eyes

The wages are death, the wages are death
The wages of sin are death
Ah, but the package is pretty and it's pleasing to the eye
And though the package is pretty, you must pass it by

If I fell in the darkness and encountered a snake
Or landed in mud, in the darkness
I would no doubt recoil, I would no doubt be safe
Ah, but I fell in the darkness
And I found a warm body
Who loved me so fierce and so tender
That I could not resist
And I did not withdraw-

The wages are death, the wages are death
The wages of sin are death
Ah, but the package is pretty and it's pleasing to the eye
And though the package is pretty, you must pass it by

If I listen to people and trust in their logic
I can justify all my behavior
But that don't make it right
And it won't fool God
But if I trust in His Word
And I call on His Name
And I accept His Son as my Savior
He will come into my life,
He'll light up the night

The wages are death, the wages are death
The wages of sin are death
Death has been conquered by Christ's sacrifice
And though we have earned death He offers us life
